Travellers International launches foundation for Pilipino performing arts

Travellers International Hotel Group, Inc. (TIHGI), owner and operator of Resorts World Manila, announced the formation of Original Pilipino Performing Arts (OPPA) Foundation during a press launch held last November 10, 2015.
With an initial funding of up to P100 million, OPPA Foundation aims to initiate efforts in institutionalizing the advancement of Philippine performing arts by awarding scholarship grants to budding artist. Partner schools include the University of the Philippines, St. Scholastica College, College of Saint Benilde, and Meridian International (MINT) College.
“OPPA’s vision is to make the Philippines globally acclaimed for its excellence in the performing arts. We aim to achieve this through initiatives built around three major pillars: supporting local artists through grants and scholarships, nurturing the industry through more opportunities for development, and elevating its standards and capabilities by providing global expertise and resources,” says OPPA Foundation Chairman Kingson U. Sian.
Present during the launch were OPPA Foundation’s Board of Trustees namely Chairman Kingson U. Sian, Vice Chairman Isidro G. Garcia, President Maria Carmen L. Yulo, Treasurer Marilou A. Almaden, Michael Stuart Williams, Marcos Genciano A. Manalang, and Rufino H. Abad.
Representatives from OPPA Foundation’s partner schools also graced the event including MINT College Head of Theater Arts Program Dennis Marasigan, St. Scholastica’s College Dean of School of Music Sr. Mary Placid Abejo, OSB, and University of Philippines President Alfredo Pascual.
